Thanks to everyone who attended trials today, and congratulations to new members of the squad! For these new members, please join the Warwick Men’s 1st Futsal Squad Facebook group here
We saw so many high-quality players that we’ve decided to invite quite a few of you back as ‘extended trialists’ so we can get a more detailed look at you.
The session for those in this category will be held next week on Tuesday (13th) 12 to 13:30 in the Desso Hall. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early so we can get started as soon as possible. If you cant make this time, please let me know as soon as possible.
For those that haven’t made it through, be aware that this isn’t done and dusted for the year. We had such a large amount of players come and trial its inevitable that we may have missed some really good players. Come to our weekly open sessions (starting next week) and keep playing Futsal- squad members will be in attendance and will always be on the lookout for new additions! Many players got in through this way last year. For information on when open sessions will be held keep an eye on this page
Finally, to those that were unable to sign up for trials/ messaged me about coming please don’t come to the extended trials on Tuesday as we want to focus specifically on the players listed below. However, definitely do come to the open session that will be announced next week (it will either be Thursday or Friday) and use that as almost an unofficial trial.
Futsal is a variant of association football that is played on a smaller pitch and mainly played indoors. Its name is a portmanteau of the Portuguese futebol de salao and the Spanish futbol de salon (colloquially futbol sala), which can be translated as "hall football" or "indoor football".
During the sport's second world championships held in Madrid in 1985, the name futbol Sala was used. Since then, all other names have been officially and internationally changed to "Futsal".
Futsal is played between two teams each with five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular football.
The rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.
Futsal is a 30 to 40 people squad who regularly compete in BUCS leagues throughout the year. It is distinct from the five a side teams that you set up with friends.
Once training sessions have been organised just get your kit and come along. All abilities are welcome. Training takes place in the Desso Hall which is inside the sports centre.
There will be 2 training sessions per week, one which will be solely for squad training (recruited players only - please only attend if invited) and another casual session where all interested players are welcome to join in.
